Limited member permissions

Not sure at the permission levels, but I’d want to add my in-laws, who may see nothing and who may change nothing (no rights whatsoever except that Canary switches modes when they arrive), my (in 6 years to be) teenage son with his smartphone, who may see some video, and change privacy/home/away, but may not change any settings and my wife, who may see everything, but is hardly interested in any settings.

This is the exact reason I would love to have this feature implemented. Please make this happen in a future update.

Definitely want this feature. We have multiple Canary devices in our house and it would be great to have different permissions for different members.

Excited to see if this will be implemented.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a wide range of permissions…from time period permissions, device permissions to even allowing people to use the app only vs web app only, etc

I love this idea, I have teenagers that would simply turn them off for various nefarious reasons.

I just got a couple of Canary units and want to buy more. I’m surprised there isn’t a feature to limit access. I live with my girlfriend and 4 kids. 3 of them are teens. There is benefit to having them as members for the at home functionality but don’t want to give them full access. Heck they can even do something against the rules and delete their recording. No bueno.

I agree with everyone on this issue its been on the board since Dec 2016 and yet nothing has been done. Canarys big news at CES was package detection - WHAT - if the camera detects motion then it should detect if someone approaches my house to take a package. App permissions is so much more important, with that they could get a firmer grip on the in home camera market which is what the all in one is supposed to be.

Exactly. I can’t believe that an app for a security type device has absolutely no security. This makes an otherwise great device terrible.

Just got a Canary View yesterday and am amazed that there’s no way to limit member permissions. So many other camera providers have this ability and it’s crazy to see that Canary doesn’t. This feature is still needed. I’m considering returning the camera just because of this alone.

I have created an account on this forum exactly to ask if this feature was existing. And I just fall on this subject  Well… finally, I’m really disappointed to see that this topic - very important, I fully agree with everybody - has been raised since 2016 without any beginning of an answer from dev team :frowning:

This would be a very useful feature, I hope this is implemented soon. Guest member access that becomes active when they are in the geofence would be great.

We would love this too!

It’s 2018 and this feature is still not on their radar. I think it’s time to move on too another product. I just emailed their tech support asking if this feature was available and I was told to post a message. Two years is way too long and still not available. Does anyone know of any product that will do this? Apparently it’s not that important to Canary. This request is not a difficult feat!!

Astonishing that a security company doesn’t allow us to assign different levels of security to different people. It’s all or nothing. Have delayed getting more cameras waiting for 1) login access levels (who can change password, see footage only, see and download but not delete footage, 2) turn off microphone so audio is not recorded, 3) turn off night vision, 4) way to see only footage from a particular camera in timeline, 5) Allow bulk or email-style deletion of footage… and more. And my video is still blurry compared to the footage my friend gets from his system by a different brand. Am 4 cameras into Canary but willing to dump them if these aren’t resolved by my birthday. And no new cameras. Other companies have surpassed the Canary.

This is a pretty big gap in functionality at this point in time for the product. I do not want to give all-or-nothing admin level access to my mother-in-law because she watches my daughter 1 day a week. I also do not want to have to disable the system so that I am not receiving alerts all day long while I am away at work. I own the August smart lock and their app provides pretty granular user permissions. I can set my in-law’s access as a guest and narrow it down to particular days. Also a guest account does not expose the entire system to the guest user. There are a number of other smart security cam systems on the market now and this is a glaring omission in functionality. It is enough to make take a hard look at the competition. Especially since I own other smart security technology that handles guest access so well.

I just imagine my in-law getting access to the account and immediately snooping around any and all recordings in my account. Makes me cringe. So I make my home less secure and disable the system so that my phone is not blowing up with Canary alerts.

I need the ability to add guest member/users without them getting permissions to do anything in the app; just prevents me from getting notifications and treats their presence as being in home mode.

I, and others I know, have reached out to support multiple times about this and they appear to not think it is important. I fortunately only have one camera so far, so I’ll be trying to return that one and obviously will not be buying others. As may have mentioned, it is baffling that a “security” company has no interest in addressing this issue.

I have posted a message here one year ago. And still any change on this subject. What is the difficulty in developping this functionality ? Canay team does not understand how it’s important? All the others are proposing this! At least they could answer and explain why this is not taken into account.

Are there any updates to this? I have two teenagers and have included them in my Canary account, but I don’t want them to have the same access that I have. The main purpose for getting an indoor security camera is to know when my kids are coming in/out and if they’re bringing people home when I’m not there. I’m a new Canary user and the lack of this capability may actually be a deal breaker for me to the point that I may return the device if it’s not in the feature update roadmap.

Bump. Just bought two devices and can’t believe I have to give my housekeeper full access to watch live video at any time just to stop the constant notifications of someone in the house while I am away.
